SFP Pointe-Noire – Loading zone

Location Sept-Îles, Québec
Year of realization 2019
Project type OPEX

The SFP Pointe-Noire operates a major storage and ship loading site for iron ore from northern Quebec and Labrador. SFPPN operates several high-capacity conveyors. This equipment must be highly reliable to avoid costly breakdowns when unloading trains or loading ships. One of the large transfer conveyors was experiencing leakage problems in its loading area. The iron concentrate therefore tended to overflow and the operation produced a lot of dust in the plant.

Eliminating overflow of a conveyor carrying over 6,000 tons of iron concentrate per hour

TRINUM was commissioned to correct the conveyor’s leakage problem. After analysis, we determined that the original conveyor design did not meet the recommended minimum length for the belt transition zone. We designed a modification of the conveyor feet to lower the pulley and move it back to ensure a proper transition.

The client completed the work in June 2019.
